Başkent University is the first private university for health sciences in Turkey. The university was founded by the Hacettepe Education Foundation in 1993, after Professor Dr. Mehmet Haberal established the Turkey Organ Transplantation and Burn Treatment Foundation in 1980, the Kidney Dialysis Center in 1982. In the academic year 1994-1995, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Nursing, and the Vocational School of Biomedical Equipment Technology continued their educational activities in the Bahçelievler region.

The first application and research centers were opened at the university in 1994 in Izmir to expand high-quality healthcare services and improve health education to address health problems in different regions of Turkey. Başkent University consists of 11 faculties, a music institute, 6 vocational schools, 7 institutes, and a foreign language school.
